New Initiatives

To keep pace with ever-changing demands for traffic safety information, AAA is implementing; several new initiatives.

Air Bag Safety. In response to the rising number of children dying from air bag-related injuries, AAA joined Chrysler Corp., the National Association of Governor's Highway Safety Representatives and others to conduct the ABCs of Air Bag Safety educational campaign. Featuring "The Back is Where It's At" air bag safety message, the campaign reached 31 million children nationwide. Since its inception, the number of child deaths decreased dramatically.

Air Bag Switches. Because of its reputation as a leader in traffic safety, AAA was selected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to participate in a public-private partnership that supplied more than 500,000 educational items with air bag on/off switch information nationwide.

CarFit. This program helps mature drivers determine if their car is the right fit and offers adjustment suggestions and other helpful tips to ensure that mature drivers get the best "fitting" vehicle to provide safe and comfortable transportation.

Roadwise Review. AAA developed Roadwise Review, a CD-ROM based tool that allows senior drivers to measure their abilities in eight functional areas shown to be the stronger predictor of crash risks. More details and ordering information.

These programs demonstrate a dedication to public service unparalleled in U.S. history. That dedication will continue as AAA maintains its reputation as the "travelers' champion" while providing its members safety, security and peace of mind.
